Many
clients may not realize that including digital photos within your
site can add panache and credibility like no other graphic can.
We highly recommend photos of your products, facility, key staff
and anything else that make your visitors feel as if they have
the "inside track" into your business operations. This
feeling of accessibility can go a long way to winning over potential
customers. We would be happy to meet your photographic needs or
recommend a local commercial photographer.
In
addition, there are stock photographs available which also might
prove valuable to your website or graphic design project. These
photos are obviously for the more budget minded and are significantly
more cost effective than a full-scale photo session.
Licensing
for these photos varies from vendor to vendor as does the pricing.
However, lower resolution photos like those utilized on a website,
are significantly less expensive than top quality, higher resolution
images needed for a color cover of a printed publication.
The
two primary types of licensing are royalty free and traditional
licensing:
In a nutshell, royalty free
involves paying a flat fee and being free to use the image in
a variety of projects. This can be a major advantage. The most
common limit on use is that you can not "sell" or post
the images to be sold. There is no limit as to how often a royalty
free image might be sold and utilized. So in all truth your competition
could purchase and use that same image if they chose to. An abundance
of images are available.
Traditional
licensing
is based on the concept that not just anyone will have the ability
to utilize the image in their campaign or website. In truth that
isn't entirely true if you purchase the rights from a major reseller.
This would be true if you purchased the rights from the original
artist, generally. Traditional licensing is linked to the actual
use of the image. If the image is being used in a printed publication,
for example, licensing costs will be based on the quantities of
the publication being printed. Your license agreement will not
generally permit you to reprint the publication without paying
another fee. In Now to be fair, sometimes you will be able to
find traditional licensed images that fit the exact requirement
that are not available as royalty free.
At
Creative Presence we will work with your budget to find the ideal
digital photo solution. No photos will be purchased on behalf
of the client until specifically approved by the client. Once
the image is approved we will be bound to pass the cost along
to the client even if a change of heart occurs later in the production
process.
TIP:
Always read the fine print of your licensing agreement carefully
to insure that you don't find yourself under the cloud of an impending
lawsuit.
